Modeling Unit

The Modeling Unit was established in 2020 within the National Planning Institute with the aim of supporting decision-making through the application of evidence-based quantitative methodologies. The Unit relies on advanced tools such as econometric models and Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) models, thereby enhancing capabilities in economic forecasting as well as policy analysis and evaluation.

The Unit focuses on three main areas of activity:

  1. Training and Capacity Building: Developing the skills of researchers and specialists in the use of modern quantitative models, and strengthening technical competencies in applied economic analysis.
  2. Research and Application: Employing quantitative models in the preparation of studies and research conducted by Unit members, thereby supporting the formulation of recommendations based on rigorous scientific analysis.
  3. International Cooperation: Expanding partnerships with Arab and international institutes in the fields of training and joint research to ensure the exchange of expertise and best practices.

Vision of the Modeling Unit

To become a leading center and a distinguished scientific reference in the field of quantitative economic modeling at both the national and regional levels, actively contributing to public policy-making through accurate, evidence-based analysis and forecasting, strengthening research and applied capacities, and fostering sustainable scientific partnerships with Arab and international institutions in support of comprehensive and sustainable economic development.

Main Functions of the Modeling Unit

  • Developing a macroeconometric model to support forecasting of key macroeconomic variables and to evaluate policies related to the development process.
  • Utilizing Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) models to conduct simulation scenarios and policy analysis.
  • Strengthening modeling skills through the organization of specialized training courses in quantitative estimation and analysis.
  • Publishing research papers addressing critical and emerging economic issues, assessing their impacts and implications.
  • Organizing workshops to discuss research topics and alternative scenarios in cooperation with Arab and international scientific and research institutions.
